Welcome to the Stone Age!

Let’s take it back a couple million years to prehistoric times with Firebringer! The show follows the journey of a prehistoric tribe at the dawn of history. Led by the capable Jamila, the tribe lives in a world where everything is new. Together, they forage for nuts and berries, watch grass grow, worship a duck god, and shelter in a cave from the ferocious sabertooth tiger, Snarl.

But Zazzalil makes a discovery that will change the course of humanity forever. Their old way of life is about to be upended as the tribe faces discoveries that change everything.

This comedy musical from Starkid Productions (made viral by the catchy song “We Got Work to Do”) is full of charm, humor, wonderful characters, and a great score. I am thrilled we will be bringing this to life at I.B.W.!

Audition Schedule

Our auditions will be organized around the three main aspects of musical theatre: music, movement, and acting. Don’t worry if one or more aren’t your strong suit—this show has many roles that don’t require all three! All we ask is that you try your best and give it everything you have.

We are asking everyone to attend each day of auditions so we can get a holistic picture of you. Who knows—you may even surprise yourself!

Students may be dismissed early each day as the schedule allows.

Monday 9/8- Music

4-6:30pm

We will meet as a large group and learn some selections from the show. Once learned, you will audition with the learned song in small groups, duets, or solo as audition needs vary. You do not need to prepare a song, all sheet music and part learning will occur during this audition.

Tuesday 9/9 - Movement

4-6:30pm

We will meet as a large group and learn some choreography with our choreographer. Please wear clothing you can comfortably move in.

Wednesday 9/10 - Sides

4-6:30pm

We will meet as a large group and distribute audition sides (small scripts of specific scenes) and where you will read with other actors.

Crew Applications Due by end of day.

Submit applications to join this production as a crew member! We will be needing crew for costuming, lights, sound, stage management, set building and painting, and so much more! Auditioning actors are encouraged to fill out applications if you wish to work on the show one way or another, your crew application will not preclude you from being cast (and might even help!)

Thursday 9/11 - Callbacks

4-6:30pm

Thursday is reserved for callbacks for any additional information the creative team deems necessary. This may include music, movement, sides, or other material. This will not be a comprehensive callback for all roles, so do not count yourself out of the running if you are not called back, we may have gotten what we need from you on the earlier audition days. The callback list will be posted by Thursday morning on the call board. Students may only be called for part of the audition time slot as needs are determined.

Friday 9/12 - Cast List posted

Friday morning, the cast list will be posted on the call board.

Monday 9/15 - All Company Meeting and Read-Through

4-6:30pm

All cast and crew will gather for distribution of scripts, logistics, and show information. The cast will complete a read-through of the show.

Important Notes

    • While talent is the primary consideration for casting, commitment and reliability are essential.
    • Please list all known conflicts on your audition form. This is critical for building the rehearsal schedule.
    • If you cannot attend a specific audition day due to conflict, please speak with Mr. Miller to see if an accommodation can be made.
    • Audition packets will be available at the company's Season Kickoff Potluck tomorrow after school.
