Part of the journey is the end

Tonight is a moment we’ve been heading toward without always realizing it. Closing night approaches quietly at first, at the end of long weeks and late nights, and then arrives loudly, all at once, tonight. These past two months have been a whirlwind of music, choreo, staging, restaging, memorization, rock-building, costuming, puppeteering, “evil Josh” dreams, discoveries, breakthroughs, and laughter, and I am deeply grateful to have walked every step of that path with all of you. With this Tribe.  Beyond just this fantastic show you have all poured your blood, sweat, and broken bones into, I am most proud of how you have made this Tribe become a unit. Your support for one another in the way you lift each other up, steady each other in moments of hardship, celebrate each other’s wins, and share every ridiculous, joy-filled moment has made this cast truly feel like FAMILY! (just imagine Smelly-Balls yelling that last word) . What you have created together backstage is every bit as m...

Notes from Preview

As we head into Opening Night, I want to thank you all for the focus and heart you brought to this whole process. As we are about to capstone our months of work as we share this with the world and I could not be more excited to do so with such an amazing Tribe!  A couple quick notes from last night: our energy dipped in a couple places, which I think you were feeling too, so remember: no matter how good the warm-up feels, the true lift has to happen onstage. Tonight, you’ll have a full audience. Use them! Play off their energy, give them space to laugh and applaud, and trust your instincts in finding the rhythm with their feedback. Continue to make discoveries, and always focus on telling this story. I’m incredibly proud of the work you’ve put into this show, and I am immensely excited for you to share it with the world tonight.  I will be around for any clarifications to notes or questions, but this is now your show! Own it, listen to your Stage Managers and have a great dawn...

Notes from Dress 2

Thank you all for your incredible work leading up to tonight’s Preview. As we head into our first audience, let’s carry forward the momentum from our dress rehearsals by keeping the energy high, staying present in the story, and really let yourselves react to the room. Remember that the audience is your scene partner tonight. Play off of them and give them space to respond to you. Follow the band for tempos, lift each other up, and trust the work you’ve built together.  Let’s have a great Preview! Josh Notes from Dress 2 OVERALL NOTE FROM SM - a lot of mixed up and reworded lines last night. Review the script before we go tonight on any scenes you are not 100% on. ALL - When at places, be completely silent unless you need to communicate a critical show function TRIBE - when entering/exiting through House doors, be as quiet as possible with shutting/open doors. If you need to engage house crew, please do. TRIBE  - Amazing entrance at top of fire!!! Where I was seated in the ...

Notes from Dress 1

Dress #1 Done, Tribe! Thank you all for the incredible focus and flexibility last night. We hit some tempo turbulence with the band early on, but your concentration, professionalism, and teamwork in the music cleanup afterward made a huge difference. We’re in a much stronger spot today because of the work you put in after the run last night, so thank you for that. As we move into second full dress rehearsal, please take time to read through all notes that apply to you . If you did not review the notes from the Tech runs (and maybe even if you did) review these as well before tonight's run. Many of those notes were not taken, and that just looses us on precious time to fix and polish. If you have any confusion or question, please ask me before our run. This is our last run with just us in the house, so we need to apply these changes ASAP so we can get this opening ready!  A few overarching notes from yesterday's run: Follow the Band.  Tempos will shift slightly from night to n...

Notes from Tech Runs (11/7 & 11/9)

Thank you all for your incredible focus and commitment throughout our Tech weekend. Between the tech run and our Act II work, your professionalism and energy is truly bringing this show to life! As we move into dress rehearsals, please continue to take care of yourselves: rest, hydrate, and stay healthy through these late nights.  The overarching note for everyone is to stay sharp: pick up cues quickly, act on the lines rather than before, and keep making discoveries and bold choices. Every detail you bring helps the story shine. As always, please feel free to ask me any clarifications or questions on the below notes before tonight's run. So excited for our first Dress Rehearsal tonight! Josh MOLAG : "Guess what you cave cushioned softies" is all one line, don't add internal beats or drag ALL: Choreo walks are improving, remember to keep that energy whenever you are just walking in a song "DARWIN" GROUP: Slower exit on Molag's line. Make it look inten...
